Hi,

I am a bit worried to be honest, after some good advice on this forum, I ordered the Carrera Fury 08 from halfords.

Now, the reason for this, is I generaly got the impression it was a 'HIGH SPEC' bike for a very good price, 499, then reduced to 399, was a steal.

However some things concern me, and as I am totaly clueless I am a prime target, but I have read at some places, halfords building the bike with lesser components than advertised, and me being me will have absolutely no idea that I have a 10 quid SEAT instead of the advertised 20 quid seat FOR EXAMPLE.

And then I noticed this..

"Specification subject to change without notice."

Am I about to get 'DONE'

how the hell am I supposed to have faith I am getting this supposed 'STEAL OF A DEAL" with shit like that written about :D

What are your thoughts? and any suggestions on how to avoid buying a bike which had some serious corners cut by halfords 'EXPERTS' during asembly.

Thansk very much.

Hi im a little embarressed to say i have worked part time in bikehut for some time and can honestly say i have never heard of this happening i think for the price you pay the fury is a very good bike and you'll struggle to find much of a similar spec for that price. it'll be fine and hopefully you'll catch the bug. saying that you do have to be lucky with the staff in your local bike hut in my store all 3 of us guys are keen riders in some other stores i have been too the staff have just been clueless workin part time while at college/ uni and not really interested in the sport try to find someone in your store who is interested in mtb and they'll be very helpful

Almost every bike out there is "spec subject to change", especially high volume sellers- in the numbers they deal in, keeping the exact parts in stock isn't always practical, if Mr Carrera phones up Mr Mavic and says "I need another 5000 317 rims, and can you deliver them tomorrow" sometimes Mr Mavic will say "No". And Mr SunRingle gets a call instead and the next load of Furys gets Singletracks instead.

But, Halfords are actually pretty good about speccing alternatives, when in doubt they tend to upspec.

i'd take it back if your halfords if it is local and get them to sort the gearing out, I bought mine flat pack and the gearing was waaaay off as the front mech was at an angle and therefore the chain would constantly hit in the lower gears so with a quick adjustment I got it working a treat.

they did say that if I had any problems then I could take it back to the store within the 6 week service period and they would be happy to sort "any" initial problems out (obviously within reason  )

oh yeah and the fury I picked up was new stock and had the sun rims... a quick phone call and they were happy to swap them with some mavic 317's slightly heavier but its a brand I trust plus I swear I had a warped disk on the front as no matter what it would rub in a certain place... put the mavic's on including the new disks and problem solved go figure?

This is what I am worried about.

What am I gonna say? can u sort the gearing out plz? they ask me whats wrong with it, and i say.. NO IDEA!? IS there anything wrong with it?

    HAHA :(

last bike I had was a Marin Bare Valley, 15 years ago, and it was stolen 15 yrs ago also, and ive nvr had a bike since, I have no idea what to expect from this new bike, NO idea AT ALL.

They should be able to set gears if you ask them.

All boxed bikes are way off when you get them, and new bikes do bed in requireing them to be readjusted.

However they are quite easy to do and is something I recommend people to learn.

I bought a fury and it was fine. Although I had to take it to my local bike shop in the end as I took it to Halfrauds twice for gear setup and other bits and they just couldnt do it. lol The bikes great for the price and spec, although I have changed quite a few bits now and have many more plans.

well this was the first bike for me in over 8 years and I have never had experience of building a bike only messing around with cheap bmx kit, i've never owned a bike with sram gearing, disk brakes, or even front shocks!!

As SuperSonic says I think you would be quite suprised with how easy it is to set this up yourself & you will learn how your new bit of kit functions, its a great feeling when you hop on and everything works (you can do the tweaking later as I plan to)

end of the day mate, you purchased the bike from them and it has to meet a certain standard and be fully functional, if they didnt want people building the bikes themselves then they would not sell them flatpack so they have to allow people asking them to checkover their kit.

I had the option of waiting over 2 weeks for them to assemble (they only seem to do 1 bike at a time!! I saw the same gt on the stand three days straight) or take a new sealed bike as soon as I paid..
