so the main push rod for the brakes is not turning in the barrel?

Pop the lever forward, remove the lever pivot bolt grubscrew push out pivot.

remove lever and push rod from the brake. and work on it.

I have a similar problem, threads on bushing and pushrod are stripped - I have removed lever, how do I get pushrod out? Does it just pull out or do I have to dismantle the master cylinder?

    Appreciate your advice

Have tried pulling hard with a pair of pliers, having lubed with silicone oil, does not want to come out. Is there a trick to this?
