Hi all,
I had my bike stolen and then recovered early in the year, which I thought was great, although it cost me £150 to replace a broken front mech and cables. I then had my bike out once before I had the front wheel stolen by the same dickheads, and promplty had to replace this with a DTSwiss 450X. When out on my bike after fitting the new wheel, I noticed that the tyre was not sitting squarely in the forks, and under load was rubbing on one side. My LBS, looked at it and thought the new wheel was out of dish slightly so he redished the wheel and all seemed better. I was away for the day recently and had a really strange accident where I cant explain what happened, it was as if the front wheel folded, throwing me over the bars. So off to get another wheel, and bought a stronger Mavic wheel this time, and once I got home and fitted it, Im getting the same issue I had previously where the wheel is rubbing in the fork on one side. Took it to my LBS and he has said that the dropout is sitting 3mm higher on one side than the other and this is why the wheel is sitting funny. He thinks the lowers may be bent, and I have still to go in and see the bike properly, but wanted some advice to see if this could be the case? Im wondering if the guys who stole the bike could have abused it enough to bend the fork, as I dont think I could have! Any advice on what I could do? Also, if it is bent, what would be my swap options? Something tougher but dont know if I can go bigger travel than 100mm on a giant trance 3?

They could be out of alignment. They are quite a flexy fork, and I have seen them bend before.
Replacing with a Reba would be a good move.0 -
This kind of annoys me, as it was meant to be rebas that went on it when I bought the bike, but they couldn't get rebas, and persuaded me it was an upgrade!
I'm really disillusioned at the moment, as the reason I paid a grand for a bike was because I thought it would be more durable than a £200 bike from halfords!! I can't afford to spend that kind of money at the moment, so looks like my summers f*cked then :-(0 -

Just less than a year, it's been the unluckiest bike I've ever had0

Warranty covers manufacturing defects not crash damage!
I don't know what length of steerer tube your bike takes but if it is 185mm or less these are a bargain http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=produ ... egoryId=18
Due to an ordering c@ck up they are less than the trade price.0 -
would they be ok on my bike as they are 110mm up? My bike came with 100mm was watching a pair of pikes on eBay0

Hi,
Thanks for pointing that out, I should read small print more!
So what would be better for me, heavy rider, aggressive trails? The reba or the pike?
I was watching these.....

The Pike's would be overkill for a Trance. The additional travel would throw out the geometry a fair bit and probably invalidate the frame warranty.
I have Rebas on my old 06 Trance and they are spot on. I like to catch some air and I'm a 6'5" bloke, so not the lightest on components and mine haven't missed a beat. Be aware if you're buying second hand (or those ones from Merlin with the cut down steerer tube) that you need to measure your current steerer to see what length you need. My Trance has a very tall head tube. Check before buying!

Cheers Jeff, good to hear advice from someone of similar size and riding preference as me! Maybe look at getting a second hand set of rebas.0
