I used to carrry a dumb bell wrench in my pocket when riding my fixed, until I snapped it. I now carry a large and heavy pedal spanner. Can anyone recomend something in between that is strong and large enough to tighten bolts, but doesn't weigh a ton?

A cool tool (Pedro's??)?? Are they still available?? I use one on my track nuts -and pretty much any other similar bolt, and you can get a heck of a lot of leverage on the allen keys too.

Lightest useful tool is the tranz X 'Zanzi tool' 20g and has 2,3,4,5 & 6mm allen key. 8 & 10 socket, bottle opener 14 & 15 spoke wrench plus cross head screwdriver. That & my cool tool is all I carry.

http://www.pedros.com/trixie.html - has wing nuts to fix to bottle cage bosses and has a lockring tool too.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
