What's the difference between Fox Float RP23 and RP2?

...because I see ads for bikes with both, but the Fox website only lists a RP23...so what's the difference or is the RP2 & RP23 the same shock, just being called different things??

They are almost identical, the RP23 is the bigger brother to the RP2.
I'm guessing the RP2 is slightly lighter as its not as big, but the RP23 is light enough! - The RP23 is Fox's flagship MTB light air shock.0 -
RP2 has 1 Propedal valve. You have a choice of having Propedal turned on or turned off effectively. Changing the valve requires sending it off to mojo.
RP23 has all 3 Propedal valves in there. You can chose a different level of propedal or turn it off altogether. Harder settings will take bigger knocks before going into travel, it should be tuned to your weight really.0 -
As above, the rp23 has 3 positions, the rp2 has 2. To be honest I can't see why you need more - once you have your shock correctly set for your weight you shouldn't need to touch it ( the holy Grail!) I only ever flick mine on stiff for the road0

HI
I wondered this a while ago as lots of high end bikes had RP2 shockers , heres what I found out
The RP2 is an OEM product with only 2 settings propedal on / off , supplied direct to bike manufacturers not the public , it will be specifically tuned to the frame/bike set up it comes with by the manufacturer , probably negating the need for the settings found on an RP23

The RP2 does not have 2 "propedal" settings as far as i know.
It has 2 setting in total = propedal "on" or just simply no propedal at all
So technically it only has one propedal setting. This is different from the RP23, which has 3 propedal settings.
The RP23 has a grand total of 4 settings = propedal "off", propedal "on setting 1", propedal "on settting 2" and propedal "on setting 3"0 -
Ok, the different models:
R - 1 valve, this can be a propedal valve or an open valve.
RP2 - 1 open valve + 1 propedal valve.
RP23 - 1 open valve + all 3 propedal valves.
Propedal comes in 3 different settings, if you have an RP2 or R with a propedal valve there should be a little diagram on the side indicating which valve you have. My Meta has the hard valve for example.
You can have a shock revalved by sending it off to mojo or tf, which valve was used is usually linked to the size or intended use of the bike. Smaller or womens bikes might have light, most will have medium, bigger bikes or efficient xc bikes might have hard.0 -
Thank you, I thought it was something like that because I have tested bikes with 3 settings and with just and on/off...thanks for the great resonses guys...

Not only that, but the RP23 comes in a choice of rebound settings and compression settings. These aren't externally adjustable, but are indicated on the can by a red and a blue bar chart!
Make sure you get the right one!
You can just see the rebound setting on the side of this one
and the compression on this one.

RP2 also has these Rebound/compression settings
go here for all the info on both shocks you need

If you buy a frame/bike with an RP23 on, then it will be tuned to that particular bike!
I know Santa Cruz and Specialized have there Shocks tuned to a particular frame.
On my 09 RP23 it has a larger Air Can and tuned compression to suit the action of my single-pivot Heckler.0
