Hi i am looking at a xc race bike for £1000, hopefully on my dads cycle 2 work scheme (fingers crossed) and was looking at the Diamondback DBR 1 2009, i am pretty sure it is the lightest bike in its price range but stand to be corrected.

has anybody had any experience of this bike before, especially the rims as they are made by DB themselves.
cheers Jamie

11kgs in the info so shade over 24lbs
I've always liked DB but think some of there bikes have been over priced/under speced in the last few years !

Does seem quite light. Spec looks like it would be heavier.

Scandium carbon frame? Could be a very light frame though!

Boardman Pro is also 24.1lb and has a better spec imo.

I'm not too convinced by the quoted weight on the Diamondback site*. The Boardman is much higher spec, couple of hundred grams saved in the fork, same again in the wheels, chainset, brakes. Even a bit saved in finishing kit and gears, it's going to be a good chunk lighter.

*which is fair enough, most brands talk porkies on weights anyway.

I would watch out about the "Dad's cycle-to-work" thing though - the company doing the scheme will want to be sure it's being used for what it's supposed to be, or they can be done for tax fraud. I couldn't get a bike on the scheme as I was part-time, and the scheme specifies that the bike should be "mostly" used for cycling to work...
  • im sure it'll be fine, my dad has a nice bike anyway (trek X0) so he will use that. Am also looking at trek 6700 looks quite good.
update: just looked at the boardman and my god!! that is by far the best value for money i have ever seen! especially compared to the inflated prices of trek, scott etc. I will definitely be going for the boardman though.

Well don't be hasty. I have a Boardman and im happy with it.

However, the geometry was different to what I was used to from my Commencal. Used to it now but make sure you try it. Other than that, yeah, fantastic value.
