Not worth a day trip from Lincolnshire, unless you want to do ten laps of it...
I live 10 minutes drive away from it and I have to be really bored to go.0 -
It's not that bad, but I would admit it may not be worth the drive up from Lincolnshire. Having said that I suppose compared to what Lincolnshore has to offer the MTB rider it's actually pretty good. Living where we do (him ^^ up there included), we do get a little jaded as there is so much good rideing locally .It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
Its a good route to do once a month or so, decent challenging cliimb (although short), and some quick singletrack at the end as well as some jumps which I can almost clear now.0

There seems to be a fad for making short trails round Lancs at the mo. They are building a new trail on Healey Nab near Rivi. Massive trail this; it's (wait for it) 0.75 miles long  Another to add to the list of trails to avoid.Frank Yates0

Is that it??? Is that REALLY what they've been making all the fuss about???
Jesus H Christ on a bike, these numpties seriously need to get a grip and start getting some serious investment going. :evil:0 -
Mind you it all adds up, that loop around rivi and healey nab will be a good un' for sure. Must try it this summer. Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10

Yep they've been going overboard about all that. Course designers, County Council, management committees, working parties - the whole goddam shebang for a piddling little trail in the middle of nowhere.
Mind you, without this to focus on it would appear that B&D have nothing else going for them.Frank Yates0 -
From little acorns, oak trees grow...you never know what might get allowed if the Healy Nab trails meet with interest...don't dismiss it offhand yet.

Trouble is that carboy and his mates are just going to wreck all the work up there by rebuilding their own trails, regardless of what is done officially.
Is he still planning that jump over the main bridleway at head height for walkers? That sort of action will see the whole lot shut down, and mtbs banned rather than encouraged.Frank Yates0 -
I have been involved in the building of the black run trail at healey nab and although short is really good fun. Admitedly i wouldnt be travelling any distance to ride it, but if your on a loop round rivi orwhite coppice its the best bit of trail your going to come across. The main route is a red which curently isnt very long (about 0.75 miles as stated) however the next phase is due to start soon which will more than double the length, then later another section to triple it to create a loop. The black is a short more direct route down the west side which rejoins the red at the current end. The reason its so small is its the only bit of forrest the local council owns in the area, the rest is firmly under United Utilities control. The council is really behind this (They have paid for Rowan Sorrel to design it and Terra Firma Build it - the red anyway) and is willing to take steps with UU to build more and longer trails in the area if this smaller project is a success. Its never going to be a glentress or llandegla its just not big enough but if you live in the local area or ride round rivi and anglesark its well worth a visit. Fingers crossed its a success and we can get better bigger developments in lancashire.0

He's a cock sure little sod who needs a reality check......like it's been said on the forum, he'll be the death of Mountain biking if people just see him riding and his attitude....they should have just built an big XC track first and let the decent riders get the good feedback and the trail recognised first...but hey ho..there's always one bad apple in every sport.

I think phase one of Gisburn should help to slay that perception. There's got to be around 8 Km of singletrack going in to add to the couple of Km already there. They're hoping that the inital trails will be good quality, attract a lot of riders and unlock more funding for further developement.
On a side note United Utilities actually owns the land where Gisburn Forest is. The Forestry commission are only tenants. If fact one of the driving forces behind the trails is the UU guy on the ground. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
