If you're able to ignore the fact you'll get them from Halfords, these two have incredible spec for the money. Okay they don't have the Specialized brand, but for the money from what I've seen the Pro is very hard to beat....

    Hardtail (09 Pro HT)

    Full Sus (09 Team FS)

Just another couple to throw into the mix really

You need to decide what type of bike you want - you have there XC hardtails at less than a grand, to long travel all mountain full sussers!

 As I was about to say before supersonic beat me to it, depends of course on your chosen style....Boardman Pro very much an XC bike 100mm travel...

Have you tried any of the ones you've listed?

Will you be riding say XC trails, long distance, or harder rougher terrain? The Pitch my be overkill for what you suggest initially.

A hard tail will be lighter.

You can pretty much forget about getting a Pitch until the 2010 models arrive and I'd be surprised if they are as much of a bargain as the 09 ones.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

    whys that? sold out?
This bike lark is hard work, or am i just being picky and looking for a great deal.
im going to look for some today, bikefactory in chester which has the specialized concept store next door.
  • XC EXPERT. Myself also got the voucher, which was made out for the xc comp at £979, but after a bit of research decided to upgrade to the expert, as to save me upgrading the folks etc in the near future.

Just have to pay the difference in cash when i pick the bike up. If you can afford to upgrade it may well be worth it for you in the long run.

    Regards.

PS i think the xc sounds more suited to your needs as i also was looking at the pitch. The xc is more 50/50 and better suited to trails etc. The pitch is more 60/40 in balance and would be better suited towards dh maybe. I've been told it is quite heavy compared to the xc and would be harder work on the climbs etc.
