I have an iPhone and I don't normally take it with me if there are others with phones and I have a Garmin Edge so I don't need the GPS features either.
My mate actually has a clamp that holds his iphone on the stem so he can use all the GPS cycling apps whilst riding. They look pretty good, but the battery gets hammered with GPS continually on unfortunately.
I have an iPhone and am never without it on my bike. I just carry it in my jersey back pocket. I don't use the map function (unless I get REALLY lost). Just use it as an iPod for tunes. I run the headphone cable inside my jersey and out by the neck!
I usually put my iPhone, iPod Touch and blackberry in the pockets of my cycling jersey, never have any problems with them. headphones run up and under the jersey and Bobs yer aunties husband.
Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men
