Not really had any FCN moments, although there are few people that ride my commute. Did over take a guy on a roadie once going up hill (he was bimbling along), I was on my mtb with nobblies. I think I upset him as he kinda chased me for a bit and over took on a down hill about a mile later. Can't really call that an FCN moment though can you???0

In the village where I live (it's really a suburb but heh!) I have noticed, on occasion, an old lady on a racing bike. Either I have been walking or we have passed on opposides of the road. The other week I rode to a pub which was 51K from home, this is the furthest I have ever ridden and very exciting. On my way home I chose to ride through Salcey Forest on a long straight road that climbed slightly. I was fairly tired, especially after a couple of pints of "eagle" and found it hard work. Half-way along who should join me than said OL. We exchanged pleasantries, then she eased ahead and left me feeling very tired indeed.
OL cyclists, they kill you with kindness, but leave you dead anyway.
I'm going to that pub again nexr wednesday but coming home a different way.The older I get the faster I was0 -
None....sorry.....
I've wasted a fair number of road bikes on my MTB with slicks, and it's currently on knobblies until the fixed arrives. Absolutely flew past a road bike on sunday after two hours off road - going up a 1 in 8, tyres whirring.......
PS I'm what I consider a roadie.....BTW....just ride around commuting on the MTB as it's the only bike that takes guards (at the moment)0 -
speed up to get pass a guy on a hybrid, but after 30 seconds i ran out stream and the guy on the hybrid just cruised pass me....."It is not impossible, its just improbable"

Passing someone on a road bike while your on a MTB, ever considered that the roadie might have already done 50 miles and by that point be completely knackered?
I don't doubt for example that my time up Box Hill could be reduced significantly, unfortunately by the time I set off up it I've usually done 40 miles of hills so I'm already past my best....
FWIW I am a roadie and I did get passed by a MTB last Sunday, but as I'd already done 50 miles and was slowing down to wait for the rest of the club to catch up to me though I don't feel so bad about it... :P'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....0 -

I think it's when a quick hybrid rider scooted by on Embankment last year when I wasn't paying attention.FCN 2-4.

Me, 3 years ago....When I came back to commuting full time.
Light Blue Specialized Rockhopper MTB with slicks.
Green and white stiped Rugby socks
3/4 Length "unofficial" England shell pants (you know - the chav ones!)
Pair of old New Balance trainers with holes in
Black company Tee shirt
Borrowed red helmet and Oakley "Ducati" sunglasses
I looked like a reject from "Wizard of Oz"
On the other end of the scale - Boardman Team road bike + full Quick Step World champs kit....looks a bit ridiculous, but it was cheap!0 -

I was well and truly scapled while out on a ride a few weeks ago. I'd done Bath to Stroud and was on the way home when some guy saw me and decided to 'ride with me'.
I don't mind riding with someone, in fact it's far better, but, if you decide to ride with someone, and your on a geared bike, and they're on a singlespeed, you've done 10-15miles, they've done nearer 80miles, you've done about 1hour, they've done about 5hours, DON'T DAMM WELL RACE OFF UPHILL!!!!
Still...yeah I got well and truly left behind.
p.s. He carried on at silly speed when we got to the top of the hill and I never saw him again. Man did I die when I got home....I ate everything in the kitchen.....
p.p.s. Didn't have much time to ask his FCN number, but doubt I'd have liked it.jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.

Was recently overtaken, whilst struggling against a strong blustery headwind, by a rotund fellow apparently spinning out at speed on a Brompton-looking bike...Only when I heard the whining sound coming back at me did I realize he was on one of them new-fangled electric jobbies. ......Still.0
