People forget that this is the third time he's tested positive for something. OK, he got off the first time 'cos his mother gave him something, but still... his carelessness gives well-prepared dopers a bad name!

Are we to assume then that Schumacher is pro cyclings equivalent of the kid everyone knew at school who'd take anything anyone gave him?

Can the BDR give out life bans,without getting into a legal wrangle? Wonder if he'll do a Ullrich and go and get a Swiss licence?

This ban needs to come from the UCI and be above all national federations so he can't worm his way back from another country.

The UCI can't ban him. It's up to the federation. That's how the system works.

I think he's effectively got a life ban already. Who would sign him? For by the time his ban has ended even the Rock Racing rehabilitation outfit will have imploded. Surely there's no way he'd get a role elsewhere.

In many ways he's a bit like Jorg Jaksche, he got some results and was then busted. Take away the CERA and he's actually pretty average, there are plenty of others capable of doing the same job without attracting the sinister reputation.

I know he won't be reading this but if I could speak to him, I'd tell him to quit wasting his money on the lawyers, they will only burn up the earnings he's got left. It's time to apologise and retrain for a life on civvy street.

Nah, it's how the anti-doping system works in general. Positive test and the governing body is informed, they inform the local ADA and they manage the case. If you are a WADA signatory you will honour accept bans from other ADA's.

So like with the Olympic bodies it was up to the relevant bodies to inform the athlete rather than the IOC or the lab.
