Hello all,

Apologies if this in the wrong section, I have some Suntour Epicon 140mm forks which the manual lists as having a max disc rotor size of 185mm. now I recently purchased a set of Hayes HFX 9 disc brakes and got a steal on a set of 203mm rotors as the Tektro ones that came with the bike are rubbing massively.

Now the question: will running the 203mm disc on these forks until I can replace the forks kill them? It's likely to be around a month until I can afford the replacement forks, probably gonna ride it 3-4 times in this period.

Cheers,

Ricky

the first question you need to answer is 'will the fork even accept the wheel properly after the big disc is fitted?'.. unfortuantely, i do not know the answer.

I would suggest waiting til you get a fork that recommends a 203 rotor.

I've got the right adapter if thats what you mean?

    not what i meant....

if you fit the caliper and new disc, will the size of the disc (and the new position of the caliper) allow the wheel to be accepted by the fork properly, or will the caliper (with adapter) or rotor foul the fork leg?

I guess if it just plain will not fit then it's easy...you wait til you get your fork upgraded.
If it does fit, then there are questions about will the extra braking force snap the fork leg clean off?

    cheers,
