Deore LX shifters and Hope Tech M4 brakes quandry

Im looking at upgrading my brakes to Hope Tech M4's but have noticed that the brake leavers sit inboard of the shifters.
I currently have Deore LX shifters which have the gear position indicator window on them which is also inboard of the shifter. Ive spoken to Hope and they say that if i can take the indicator window off then i wont have a problem with the brakes.
Does anyone know if you can buy replacement parts so i can remove the window and put a standard XT/XTR type cap in their place. This means that the brakes can be mounted adjacent to the shifters.
I dont really want to splash out on new shifters as well, SWMBO will go nuts!
