I've got visions of maser riding it on a bike fitted with supermarket trolley castors

I've cycled on the route between Skipton and Leeds - it gets a bit rutty between Bingley and Silsden but mostly it is just hard undmade surfaces - smoothish but bouncy in places so really a quick tyre is sensible (eg the Continental Speedkings on my bike). Mind you, I've not gone further than Skipton so maybe it gets worse further along but I can't imagine much worse.

I cycled the whole thing in a day last year for charity.

The bit around Skipton is certainly the worst in terms of being rutty and bouncy however there are long stretches of it on the Liverpool side that are all grass apart from a 3 inch groove of dirt/mud.

On the day we rode it rained for the first 6 hours meaning that if you were riding in the rut and strayed onto the grass it was extremely slippy if you have quite slick tyres on (which I did). I actually came off twice because of that.

I'd say if it's going to be dry definitely use a quick tyre like Rolf F recommends but if it's going to be wet go for something a bit more intermediate that's decent on wet grass IMO.

I'd say Maxxis Ignitors in 2.1" flavour, fast and grippy

    Id take a big stick!

Had a bit of a dodgy encounter with some youths around shipley the other weekend.

They pulled up next to me and were asking how much my bike was and were I bought it from.

Then they kept racing ahead then stopping and waiting until I had gone past then overtaking me again.

Thought i was going to have to kick some arse but they eventully rode off!
