    Shame for him, but possibly allows Lampre to throw in either a carthorse to drag Cunego round Venice, or another half-decent climber.

    Shame also as Ballan's from the Veneto, so the first few stages are all in his local area. Would have been nice for him to get to ride through his local area in that jersey in the Giro. I'd already been backing him for a stage win at somewhere like Valdobbiadene.
