Hi everyone, I'm picking up my new bike this friday (Specialized Rockhopper Pro 2009)

It comes with cheap shimano clip pedals which I'm taking straight off and replacing with flat pedals.

I've been looking at the popular DMR V12's, but I'm a little worried about foot size (as I'm a size 10)

I've been reading some threads on here and also looking at reviews on other websites, but theres so much out there i cannot make up my mind

Is there anything out there besides the V12's that has the same quality but larger more squarer footprint or should i stick with my original choice?

PS : I will be doing medium off road use, downhill and light on road.

Thanks in advance

Pete

Take a look at Wellgo MG1's. Super light and always recommended as the best value for money flat pedal. Can be bought for around £35 from Merlin.

I think Wellgo also make the DMR's you are talking about.

    +1

30 quid from high-on-bikes on ebay. Many, many pleased users on here.

Wellgo V8's are a tenner from chainreaction aswell, if you think they may be big enough for ye.

  • I'm getting some v12s soon but only because of the colour issue, if not I'd go for the wellgos but I finally have a nice bike so I'm going to whore it up

Im a size ten and i use the wellgo v8 copies. They are a good pedal and i went for them when my mate took the mick for wanting to spend 25quid on other pedals. Glad i listened, they seem strong and are big enough for me, plenty of grip but paint comes off very quick with use
  • I'm a size 12 and I use the Wellgo V8 copies on my hardtail and full suss. Grip is great and I've not had any problems with them.

Wellgo MG1s again. Super light, sealed, great vfm. Make V12s look horribly over priced.

If you want something a bit bigger though take a look at the Gusset Slim Jim or the Outland copy. Also a size 10 here and that's what I use.
  • MG1 is great value.
Although I use V12's with size 10 shows no problems, those screw in pins are almost sticky!

What are the V8's like that come with the MBUK subscription offer?

    '11 Schwinn Corvette - FCN 15?
'09 Pitch Comp - FCN (why bother?) 11

Yep. I've got gusset slim jims and they have a wider profile for those of us with flipper feet. They're also fairly light considering as they are simmer than v8'2.
Couldn't get on with the V8's at they weren't wide enough for me.

Kona jack sh*ts are wider than v8's too, but not as wide as the slim jims. but the kona's are bulky and quite thick.

You can also get a full set of longer replacement pins for the slim jims for £6 if you don't have enough grip. much cheaper than replacement pins for the V8/V12's.

Another vote for MG1s, I have a set of V8s but they're on the spare bike. Only downside of them is that the mag alloy cage isn't the strongest, if you're a rock-whacker it's likely to get damaged over time. But that's a small price to pay for a very grippy, very light, very cheap pedal I reckon. I'm size 9 but they're more than big enough.

    MG1 for me.

I have also got some Azonic X pedals from Chainreaction, these have proved to be very good and grippy.
  • Hi Guys, thanks for all your replies, what is the paint wear like on the Wellgo MG1's?

I put some DMR V8s on my bike today and they seem plenty wide enought for my 10.5s and really grippy. I just like having something so easy and cheap to service or repair. I like steel axles, grease and loose bearings

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?

Terrible  Exactly as bad as the V8s in fact. Fair play, pretty much any painted pedal will wear fast, it's a brutal job they do (feet + mud = sandpaper) but it'd be nice if they lasted just a little longer before they looked sandblasted. There's definately pedals that retain their looks better. I have to say I couldn't care less, personally, but if you do then it'd be an idea to get the silver ones maybe.

I kinda think that paint worn pedals are a badge of honour. Makes it look like the bike is used, sort of like the skidded out back tyre when you are 8.
