Hi guys,
I was looking to buy a bike but have been given one by a friend. He said it's needs some work as a local bike shop quoted £100+ to do the necessary repairs to make it 'roadworthy'.
I think he said new chain, cassette, brake pads & cables & possibly one of the tyres (but you could get away with it).
Is the frame worth working on and undertaking as a beginner? Any advice would be greatfully appreciated

Hmmm, an old arrowhead! 1997 vintage.
Decent entry level machine, but I wouldn't go overboard. Forks are a bit naff, and will be hard to find replacements.
If 100 quid is all you have, I say go for it!0 -
Cheers was thinking it might be a nice project. Have managed to get £250 together for a new bike.
So you do you think it's worth giving a full makeover then on the basis of the frame?
i.e new tyres,handlebars etc..
Thanks0 -
A 250 quid bike would probably eclipse it to be honest such as its equivalent today:

Lighter frame, better gears and parts.
That is the problem with buying new parts, they are expensive, and full builds are worth more than the sum of their parts.
You could get chain, cogs and cables for less than 50 quid and service it yourself.0
