Hey
Well the word from my bike shop is,,, I f$%cked up my mavic crossride hub.
Lost a part or it broke, they reckon might be time for a new one.
I have never bought a wheel, and the missus says I can use the joint acc as I save it money on petrol everyday.
What I want is a little upgrade from the crossride, possibly lighter.
But I want the flat black spokes as think they are cool.
Can you guys help, I have ... well dont have hundreds, maybe 100 to 150 at the most.
Was looking at merlin at hand made ones, but dont know what I am looking for or what I need.
My brakes are magura louise 2008, dont know if that helps.
Thanks guys

I don't think Merlin build with bladed spokes.
Mavic Crosstrail?0 -
They look so nice.
Why dont all companies build with them..
Arent mavis crosstrails expensive?
I was thinking, could the LBS just replace with a new hope hub or something?

Thats an expensive site, cant afford over 300 for one wheel.
Any other ideas, were I can get a rear wheel, thats like the crossride but lighter, for around 100-150?
Thanks
ps. Why are those cross trails lighter and cheaper than the 09 of the crossrides?
And they look nicer as well
oops that was just for one...0 -
What about a new hub?
Are hopes any good, or XT or something, that would be a cheaper option.
Thanks0 -

The site itself is not expensive - hubs cost as much as in any other bike shop, the same with rims. You are simply selecting expensive hubs! I think XT hub is cheapest, works out at a reasonable price.0 -
Buy another Crossride wheel or check out the wheel builds on Merlin?2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4
2017 Canondale Supersix Evo0 -
I was thinking of buying a new one.
But the rear is like 80 or 90 on its own or I can buy the new set for 130.00 on merlin.
Will speak to LBS and see what they say.
They might be able to fit a new hub on it as I am sure the crossride hub is no better than an XT,0 -
Rears are a lot more expensive than fronts...
My rear wheel (still waiting for the hub to get in stock!)...
Hope Pro 2, Spank Stiffy Rim, DT black spokes = £200
Front wheel:
Hope Pro 2, Spank Stiffy Rim, DT black spokes = £105
Just to show you that 80-90 for rear on a set that is 130 a pair sounds pretty normal. The front is probably £40-50ish0 -
£80 or £90 is quite cheap... The one I am thinking about is £255 just for the rear! Hope Pro 2, DT Rev spokes, NoTubes Olympic rims... Tempting to stick with XT and save about £100, or basically a front wheel...0

Just spoke to LBS and he said he managed to re-build the Hub.
Thank god for that, as did not really have 100.00 for a new wheel.
Thanks guys for the help.
My company is doing C2W in june, so might buy a voucher again for wheels and brakes.
Depends on what company they use, told them not halfords, but they prob will use them..LOL0
