Does anyone have any experience with Xero wheels especially the Cyprus Xc disc version?? (woollyhatshop sell them)

am looking at wheels at the mo but have a Very limited budget! and these seem to fit the bill Very well, the only down side is that there is Hardly any info on the net on them that i have found through google,
i've had a natter with the guys at WHS over the phone and they have said that they are comparible to the mavic crossrides (rrp on the xero's is £120 which is pretty much what the crossrides were prior tot he price hike),
my only concern is that as a slightly ladry chap (15 1/2 st) and doing what i suppose could be classed mildly aggressive Xc i dont want to kill them off! (i heard through a guy selling some crossrides on ebay with a buckle that they have a tendancy to do so if the weight is much over 13st! anyone else heard this??)

Merlin have the cross rides at the mo for £130 as do CRC but the Xero's are £85 which is a considerable saving!

any info ono these wheels would be Very gratefully received!

Thanks in advance,

Timmo.

Halfords used to sell them too, and I am sure I have seen them under different names.

Not as heavy as I thought, and 32 spoked wheels with plain guage spokes, I imagine will be stiffer than the Crossrides. Butted spokes would have saved some weight, but overall just a little more the crossrides.

Budget formula hubs can be hit and miss.

I think for £85 they look perfectly reasonable.
  • thanks super!
trouble i have is saving £85 is about doable, but saving the extra for the crossrides isnt half as easy lol! (every time i manage to save a decent amount of money something goes wrong on the car or the house etc and off goes the moeny loL! last time it was the exhaust on the car falling off on the easter weekend when i was all set for a set of wheels  )
the chap at whs said the freeride version would certainly take the weight from me and a decent amount of abuse and they are only 165g heavier than the cyprus ones for the set, so could be better as that regard, but i just cant get around the extra weight haha! even though i poo out significantly more every day hahah! that and the cyprus ones look Cooler hahahah!

trying to make th ebike as light as possible and still useable, hence the head around the extra 150 odd grams! just the wheels and forks to do and aiming for 20lb on a serious budget!!

Most 20lb MTBs have 1400g wheelsets lol, or even less!

Might want to look at these too:

Don't know the weight, but probably more than the above.
  • yeah i know! i just cant afford them loL!
most the parts like the forks (marz mx comp air!- heavy!) wheels and mech's have come over form my old full suss frame but thanks mostly to ebay the frame (carbon) cranks (carbon) seatpost (fsa k-force carbon) saddle (carbon) seat clamp (hope) Bars (fsa k-force carbon) stem (kcnc) cables (xtr) chain (kmc x9l gold) and cassette (XT M770) has all cost me just over £300! mainly due to a lot of luck and late night ebaying!
i spent Ages going through wheel builds on merlin and then searching around for weights of all the componants etc to get a 'rough' weight,
xt hubs(6bolt) on 717's with Dt comp dtainless db spokes come in at 997/1197ish so guessing that deore's are going to be heavier again, the xt set puts them above the free ride version Xero's by another 100g and 200 over the xc's,

the wheels i have at the mo are Rigida Zac2000 on unbranded hubs (possibly quando??) but i have to say they have been faultless! i bought them just over 5 years ago for £45 new of ebay and in that time all i've needed to do is a little trueing, adjusting the cones a couple of times, replace the freehub, replace one spoke and thats pretty much it! so i cant complain over them! well apart from the rear wheel with only the disc weighing in at 1.8kg and the front at 1.2 naked! so have considerable savings to be had on them alone!

i'm after the impossible! lightweight, strong and Cheap lol!
