I've got a couple of days up in Dundee next week - not looking forwards to the 5 hour drive, but the good news is, by 2pm on Friday, I'm a free man, and up in Scotland.

My plan is to stop of at Carron Valley on the way back, and have a blast around the 10.5k red route there http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-6P6HMZ

Just wondered if anybody else has been - what can i expect, is it any good?

Will I be grinning all the way home, or should I make other plans?

Cheers!

    Short
    Not too challenging
    Some nice climbs
Easy to do loops of certain sections

I really like it and it serves a purpose. The terrain's good and it's a really fast trail.
  • going tomorrow to Carron valley anyone been recently?

I was there last weekend but they are closing the runway and eas dubh for maintainence work imminently (if not already) an thats a big portion of the route. info on forestry website apparently.
  • went today was fantastic just to let people know closing the runway and eas dubh for maintainence work on 15th Sept not sure for how long

  • 3 weeks apparently
  • Got there this week (few months after initailly planned!)
Good trail - well worht a visit if in the area, the tracks were in excellent condition and layout makes it easy to do a few loops.

The Top half was sadly closed, but had a scream on the runway - perfect for working on the jumping stylee!

Much respect to the team maintaining this trail
  • I like Carron Valley - it's easily accessible for me and short enough for a quick blast and then home if I'm short of time, or if I've got more time you can do a few different loops without any hassle. It's become one of my regular places to visit. 8)

More trails and facilities would always be welcome - I still struggle to understand why given it's far more accessible to most of the population of Central Scotland than the 7 Stanes sites, the Forestry Commission haven't made much more of Carron Valley. Seems like a wasted opportunity to me.
