Hi,
Are Ellis Briggs frames still considered any good? The reason I asked, I used to ride one of their 753 frames and have not been in touch with the cycling scene for a long, long time.

Can you still buy them? I have not seen them around for a long time.0

Well it would appear so:

In the 80's there was always a bit of healthy competition between Ellis Briggs frames and those from Pennine Cycles.
I just wondered if Ellis Briggs still had a good reputation as a frame builder?

To be honest I haven't seen a 'new' Ellis Briggs for years - and I live near Shipley!
I can vouch for Bob Jackson frames though - I've two of them and they're superb.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

When do you ever see a new custom built frame these days? I had a couple of Ellis Briggs frames (the race frames were badged Favori and I had one with beautiful cut out lugs) but sadly they are a rare sight now.0

very true - you don't see that many custom built frames these days. I saw a nice Robin Mathers a while back, but it looks like he has stopped making frames - at least for the time being.0

Er, all the time. All my bikes are custom built - including my carbon fibre Viner!Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

I started this thread for a number of reasons. My main reason is I would like to buy a steel single speed cyclocross frame with one or two tweaks. I also wanted if possible to support a local business.
I have found a local'ish frame builder who will make me a frame, but having looked at Viner bikes (thanks Chip) I realise I can get a much higher specified custom frame from Italy and save quite a bit of money.
I guess I need to do some more research before I part wih my cash.

Dave - Have a look in Triangle in Horsforth. Adam will sort you out with a Viner. That way you are still supporting a local company
If needs be I could pop round to Triangle if you visit (I live 5mins walk from there) and show you my Viner Maxima.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

It is Adam Nevin! So from your enquiries about Ellis Briggs frames I take it you were a member of the Bradford Wheelers - the second best road team in West Yorks after the Leeds RRCExpertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/
