Motocross or DH helmet?

I took a few tumbles at Cwmcarn this weekend and I need to replace my FF helmet. I've had a headache since Saturday. Does anyone run a Motocross helmet for DH? Apart from weight and ventilation I can't see any downsides - is it a case of more protection = better?
I've read elsewhere that DH helmets are better for low-speed impacts, but logically that makes no sense, MX riders crash at low speed all the time.
Looking at a TLD SE2 or TLD Air - if anyone has either of these and can give an honest review I'd be grateful.
cheers

I'e got a no fear prime MTX helmet. Nice fit, not as much ventilation, but its got clever channels in it so I find it reasonably cool.
Not much/if any heavier than my bro's 661.. however he's now got an MTX helmet too.0 -
Motocross helmet will be heavier which could be detrimental in terms of neck injuries. However there is no doubt they'll do a better job of protecting your brain.
If you spend enough money you can get very light motocross lids. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
If you still have a headache i'd be tempted to get down to your doc's as soon as poss!

Nah. the cheap 661 lids are quite hefty. my MTX isn't noticiably heavier than my bro's old 661 comp, and its a much better fit (same size obviously) and much more comfortable.0 -
If I'm not wrong they are a bit bigger than DH helmets and have more paddings. But don't take my word on that.
And MX helmets will save your head better at 20-30+mph impacts, probably.
So it really depends how hard are you crashing and with what speed.
Me for example, before I crash/fall I can always manage to slow down enough so
I can walk away with minor bruises, and no helmet damage (maybe a few scratches).0 -

Forget the helmet for now, it's A&E for you young man.
Not been watching the news? About that woman at Morrison's who tackled a shoplifter? The shoplifter pushed her over and she banged her head on the floor. She went home and complained of a headache. 6 hours later she was dead.0 -
Yeah mild concussion. Anyhow, managed to pick up a carbon D2 for a bargain price, winner0
