Ive finally got my brakes mounted and i took my bike for a quick ride. It was raining but the brakes were squeaking very loudly every time i used the brakes. Also they have brand new pads so is it anything to worry about or is it normal?

  • I've had 3 different makes of disc brakes and and some point they all squeked / squealed - some worse than others. Generally I ride with sintered pads all the time and these seem less prone to the problem. When they're new pads tend to be noisier for some reason.

Some advice I came across on here somewhere is that disc pads need to be broken in by doing a few 'complete stops' in the dry. Something about cooking / hardening the the pad surface before they get used in the wet. This seems to reduce the problem for me.

YEr, do a few hard stops to get the pads hot, prolongs the life of 'em and gets the pad shiny for better braking. Some scream like a pig, some are quieter.... Dont worry about it.

Did you have the brake mounts faced and are the calipers shimmed corectly so they are centred on the disc ?
