Im after set of Halo Wheels either the SAS or combats or the Freedom wheels which are good and strong for drops and doing downhill in them, i know there are other rims wheels availiable but im after these which is suitable.
Any advice be great.

You would be better off with Mavic EX721's, lighter and just as strong when built by a good wheelbuilder.

have a look at the Tornado if you are stuck on Halo.

Halo Tornado are they ok for freeriding and getting into DH then was initially thinking Freedoms as light and strong and Chris Smith uses them but read in mag not ment for hardcore DH, i havnt got large buget any more 100 or so for each wheel aswell and i forgot to mention they have to be white, i also just looked at the Funn rims they look cool too.

the SAS and the current Combats are the same rims. (SAS has better joints)

    Strong and heavy will last.

Tornado good all-round will not last as long. ( I know one that lasted consecative World cups at Fort William and Schalming (sp) in 2006 and was only replaced last year.

Freedom get it wrong on the DH and they will fail.

  • I have a Freedom rear wheel, bought from CRC built on a spin doctor hub for pretty cheap (can't remember the exact price) but its been solid as a rock since i got it. Its taken a fair beating in Leogang/Saalbach last year and a thrashing at Forest of Dean downhill trails.

I'm not gonna pretend my DH riding is hardcore, but its taken everything ive thrown at it  Bike was, up until a few days ago, still really light and chuckable so can't grumble about the weight. Its only the addition of my new tyres that weighs it down now (2.4'' tyres are about right for the rim as its not super wide, handles my 2.5's fine, no more though!)

    Highly recommended! Hope this helps

  • I have the white freedoms. I like em, but I don't do any crazy DH. They seem pretty soild on the trails and stuff though - haven't had any problems.
