Is there any benefit?

I know this is a rather general question but I am just looking for a general opinion.

Would there be any benefit when riding on the road in using a cheap and basic road/hybrid over a decent mountain bike. I am getting tired of changing tyres from mountain to road and back and am considering buying a cheap second bike for using on the road, something along the lines of a Carrera Gryphon V-Spec.

Thanks for reading.

You pretty much nailed it - it comes down to speed. You're going to go faster on slick tyres.

However -instead of looking at buying a whole new bike - why not look at a set of new wheels - then you could swap your wheels over instead of changing the tyres all the time!

One set of wheels (and tyres) for road - one for off-road. Your road wheels will allow you to have a faster, smoother ride.

Also you might have better gearing for the road, and no suspension sponging away some of your effort. Bigger wheels help too, so, yes there are benefits.

Check for existing threads about changing wheels, and some potential catches.
