Hi this may be a stupid question but will a 7 speed thumb shifter be adjusted or changed to work on an 8 speed bike?

Thanks

7 speed shifter will need to be replaced if the intention is to have 8 cogs at the back.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Sorry not enough cable pull to cover the 8 cogs. will manage 7 of the 8. You may get it to work on 8 cogs out of a 9 spd cassette.

    More info needed.
