Power spline Bottom bracket faulty? How to tell?

I've had my bike for about a year and have covered about 1200 miles mainly riding to work with single track thrown in.
It has a Trutrav (?) Isoflow chainset and a powerspline BB. When I pedal the BB has started clicking, and after checking it there is a bit of play in it.
Is it better to replace the BB or should I just buy a new chainset thats more up to the task..
The current chainset is ok, but is it false economy just to replace the BB.
Many thanks
Rob

up to you have a look at costs of new cranksets and decide. 1 year is good for a power splin bb."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

i went through three power spline bottom brackets in about 10 months same fault every time the bearings went. The bottom brackets are cheap though so just get another until the chainset it worn out then upgrade.
This is because a decent chainset will set you back far more than the £17 bottom bracket0 -
I think its about £16 for a PS BB whereas I'd pay around £75 for a good chainset. Trouble is I don't want the chainset to give in after replacing the BB. Do chainsets generally wear in that manner?

The rings wear, but steel lasts a lot longer than alu.0

I had the same problem with mine - bearings went within a year.
I got a Deore set of cranks fitted with the external BB that came with them - parts and labour were about £50 at Evans. My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0
