Tyre life

Can anyone tell me how long I might expect a tyre to last? I know it is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string question" but after looking at the state of my existing tyre, I had to put on a a Pro Race 3 tyre that I had bought for some summer sportifs.

I didn't keep a record, but I reckon my last set of Pro Race 2s lasted about 1500 miles. Is that typical, so should I expect something similar from the Pro Race 3s. (I eventually replaced the PR2s because they had so many little nicks and were also beginning to puncture quite frequently)

My Rear Pro 2 lasted over 2500miles, and I only binned it because there was a sidewall cut, it had plenty of tread left. The front is still going strong.

If all went well I should imagine you'd get 3000 out of a rear PR2, I'm not sure about the PR3s though.

My rear has lasted over 9000 miles, but now it's starting to show signs of wear. And the front's still going strong.

Hmm, I got nowhere near 9000, and even if my estimate is out, am still someway off 2500. :(

I think it,s difficult to put a figure on. It will largely depend on rider weight, type of road surfaces ridden on and running the tyre at the correct pressure.I used prorace3 when they were released last year and found for the summer months and good weather they were excellent, however when the rain and bad weather came they cut up very quickly. Personally, if i can get 3000Kms out of a tyre i am very happy.

Judging by the current state of my Pro3 Race I would estimate they need replacing around the 2000-2500 mile mark. Will probably try something different once these have worn out. Just to mix it up a bit.

I'm no heavy weight but no weight weenie either at 12st 10lbs and I've just about squeezed 2700miles out of a rear Tricomp in mostly dry weather. I think that's about it though as there are the makings of defined areas of separation between the centre black tread area and the red sidewalls. The shoulders have been well and truly rounded off too!

The front still has lots of tread left so I'll be doing the magic shuffle...new front, front to rear and getting approx 5k miles out of a pair from now on in! 8)
