I have an Spec Allez Sport that I have upgraded to Ultegra 10spd and I now want to see if there is a nice frame I can get to kind of finish it off.

Does anyone have any advice they can offer, but bear in mind my wife is not keen on my hobby so unfortunately for me, money is an Issue!!!

I was looking at some of the ribble frames as I figured they would be good value. Something like this perhaps?

Would this be vastly superior?

Thanks for any help/direction.

How about this frame, is this much better than the Ribble ones?

The Planet X SL Pro carbon looks good and has recently been reduced to £400 frame & forks.

If you want a XL, I have one for sale (black), brand new still in the box. I got it along with another frame in a one day deal. Saved around 25% which I'd be happy to pass on. It'll be advertised properly soon...

I really like the look of the Planet X and I would have been very interested in your frame, but I am only 5ftt 11, so I guess I need a medium or large frame????

I thought I would like a white one, but I think the black one looks nicer.

Would you know if I could migrate all my bits from my current bike or is that too much of an unknown question to properly answer?

Why don't you try a carbon frame at your LBS. It will give you some kind of indication of whether you think it is likely to be 500 pounds better than your Allez frame. Given the lack of spousal approval, I would think long and hard about the matter. Remember also that you will also have to budget for transferring all the components and buying new bits where the old ones won't fit; you may or may not get lucky with headsets/front derailleurs/cables/brake bolts here.
    Good luck!

I can't understand why your wife not being keen on your hobby should be an issue, tell her you're endevouring to take care of your most valuble posesion, namely your body. O r would she prefer "you pop your cloggs" sooner rather than later but have a nice insurance pay out.

    Hi Tony

I got a SL Carbon Pro Medium recently and I'm the same height as you. I'm really, really glad I didn't for the large size as it would be quite a stretch.

You should be able to transfer all of the bits from your allez to this new frame, but you might need to think about the gear cable routing as it's probably different - time to upgrade to some of the frictionless cables from gore me thinks.

    Cheers David

    Hi David,

Thanks for that, the size of the frame is what really worries me. My Allez is a 58, which is what the LBS recommended but I think this may be too big for me as to get my knee over the pedal axle the seat is as far forward on the rails as it can be. Mind you, 48" for the planet x sounds small!!? I don't get all this sizing!!!

As long as I don't have to buy too much to get it running it would be great!!!
