Hi,

Giant SCR 1.5 (2008) or Boardman Comp (2009)

I would like to hear your views on these two bikes (or have other ideas thrown into the pot).

I am a mountain biker looking for a road bike to commute on, train on and possibly more. They are both £650. Giant has braze-ons for mudguards (could be useful for winter commutes) and more relaxed geometry, but the Boardman has better wheels and finishing kit?

Many thanks.

  • Got a Giant SCR 1.5 in December and I'm very pleased with it. I got it as my first road bike with a view that if/when I get another bike the SCR would become my winter trainer. I've never ridden any other road bike, but all I can say it that it has been reliable, comfortable on 6 hour rides, and the ability to take mudguards has been great this winter.
  • I've got the 1.5 too, I think its great. knackered the wheels commuting, but it isn't the best commute with potholes etc.
I would have thought you'd be able to get a better deal than £650 for one though? I think I did and that was back in july last year

Yeah £650 was it's RRP. as it's last years model it should be way lower than that, I bought one last Sept in the EBC sale for £475 8)
