Ok, not sure if this should be posted here, so bear with....
New to road riding, i need to know, why a bike with say shimano 105, alloy frame, mid range road bike would be good for a sportive or Audax?? Why not a high end carbon?
I know this may seem like the thickest of thick questions, as i know why a downhill mountain bike wouldn't be particularly good for XC, just can't seem to see the reason for the road stuff!
I have both, to be honest, and have a Sportive coming up next month, which I was planning ot do on the carbon one, and yet, have just seen a bike for sale on here, similar spec to my winter mule, alloy frame, 105, etc etc, and they say, 'ideal for Audax or Sportive'....
Thanks in advance.....

An audax bike would traditionally be something a bit more comfortable than a pure race bike. A slightly longer head tube and more relaxed seat tube angle. Also there used to be a rule that bikes for an Audax required mudguards, which can't be fitted on most race bikes. But times change and you'll now see plenty of carbon bikes on Audax and Sportive rides.

    Ah right, ok, makes sense!
Didn't want to feel to much of an idiot turning up next month with the race bike, only to be told, 'No show here with THAT thing matey'!
    Thanks again....
