Hi :) like many others i see posting.. getting back into biking after mine was stolen 3 years ago..... it was quite an old Specialised FSR from back in 98` so i imagine things have moved on and alot of change so unfortunalt i know little about the currant spec and componants :0(

I managed to find the 2 bikes listed in the thread title for a pretty good price of £440... same for each 1 ... and have no clue which would be the better buy,, or have better componants...

If anyone could offer and advice would be much appreiciated :)

1 other option is i see pauls cycles is doing the Giant Yukon fx3 for less than half price!! down to £309! would be a better choice than the above two as 440 is a little more than u can afford tbh... but not not out of reach.. many thanks :)

These are both good hardatils for the money. With recent price increases on bikes these represent a bargain.Next year these 2 will proably be selling for twice that.XTC will be more stretched out and racy,Kona might be a better choice if you have been out of the saddle for a while.
Forget the Yukon, the XTC and Caldera are much better for a little more, and you`ll regret not having found the extra £100 or so later.

A mate has the Caldera - rides nicely with a decent spec. That would be a good choice.

thnx for the replies.... noticed that the XTC 2.5 is up for an extra 100 quid at £540 are the differnce in componants from the 3.5 worth the 100 quid? or is it negligable ?

i would rather skint myself now if i was getting 2 or 300 quid worth of better gear for only 100 quid extra...... would stop and further outlays on upgrades so maybe alot cheaper in the long run?

All the components are a bit better, and the forks and brakes are a definite improvement.
With decent forks, costing £200 or more these days, its a no brainer if you can afford it.
