Hi

Looking to get a set of handbuilt wheels for raoad racing and sportives... looking at the follwing spec:

dt240s hubs
dt aerolite spokes (28 rear and front)
mavic open pro rims

but have also considered the merits of hope pro 3 hubs (which are cheaper), sapim cx ray spokes, and dt 1.1 rims.

Anyone got a similar build and would like to share their thoughts, or advise me on spoke count, which compoents you might change etc...

and if anyone's got these components in stock i'd be happy to contact them for a quote.

Cheers

Mike

DT hubs are v. light but not so cheap at the moment. Alternatives are Dura Ace, PMP and as you suggest, Hope Pro3. All are good hubs.

For racing, unless you are a big fella, then a well-built 28h will be fine. I'd also consider Ambrosio Excellight rims - buit more money than OPs but they have a good rep.

I've just had a set of 28h Pro3s built onto excellights and they are doing fine. I used the aero speed spokes which aren't quite as extremely bladed at the aerolites and a bit heavier (355g vs 278g for 64) but I wanted a slightly stronger build. Mine came in a around 1650g with rim tapes. Not superlight but that wasn't the only objective.

The main variable is the builder though.
