Hi all,
I'm trying to find a nice cheap but decent-ish bike to get back into Road riding (mainly communting 25 miles a day plus weekend rides) and the Muddyfox Milaon Triathlon is available on ebay for £220 at the moment:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0380921503
Anyone know if this bike is okay? Spec doesn't seem too bad does it? Sora etc.?
Thanks for any advice,
Daz

I bought a similarly specced bike from ebay (Viking Monza) and am pleased with it. Back then the most important thing was that the bike has STI shifter and a decent frame. This way I can upgrade bits and pieces if I have extra money.
By the way I'm a student as well.
But if you're working maybe you could ask your employer for some sort of cycling scheme.0 -
Cheers mate, appreciate it. I'm a trainee teacher so no cycling scheme unfortunately until I start teaching next September (over a year away!)
I think I might order it - seems like a steal!

Do you care if you get wet? You might not be able to fit mudguards to that bike, in which case it won't make a particularly good commuter.... Price is good, as long as you know how to assemble it. For about 100 pounds more though, you could buy a Giant SCR from a dealer. Those are really nice bikes.0

Dont buy this bike, it is heavy, geometry is pants. The only good thing is the tri bars fitted and you'd take 'em off to commute anyway. wait a while and look in cycling weekly classifieds for a good 2nd hand bike with a much better spec.0

It's not like he's going to race with it. with regards to mudguards, he can always buy mountainbike ones - it works on mine. Plus I beat couple of carbon frame riders using my similarly specced bike (upgraded wheels to Fulcrum Racing 7) so at the end of the day it's back to the fitness of the rider anyways.
As a students it's foolish to blow out budget, plus if he's waiting longer, the money that he'll save will be put on public transport or petrol, tax, and insurance anyways, specially in London public transport is unreliable and expensive.
My advice - as long as the frame is the right size for you just get it. While you're riding this one, you can save money for an entry level road race bike or buy parts when you have extra money to build a race worthy bike. simple as.
If you need help assembling the bike just PM me.0 -
Thanks all, much appreciated.
I ordered it but it comes with a 14 day money back guarantee so if it's really as bad as you say dmclite I'll return it.
Thanks for the offer of help ohlala!, cheers! As you say, the longer I leave it the more I spend on petrol and lose fitness so I couldn't really wait any longer (well I could but it seemed like a steal!). I've got 2 weeks, if I hate it I'll return it and spend a bit more on something a bit better.
Oh and it can fit mudguards so that's cool.0 -
Ok mate, hope I'm wrong and the bike works out for you, happy trails.0

Cheers mate, thanks for the tip on cycling weekly too. Hey, seven dwarves in the bath all feeling happy. Happy got out so they felt grumpy instead!0
