Most expensive bike ?

Was just flicking through a WMB mag and noticed a Merid 96 for £8000!

This got me wondering, what is the most expensive production MTB around. I know there is a Scott that is about £7500.

I am not talking about team bikes or custom one offs, I mean a bike I could (If I had the cash!) go and buy in a shop or online??

At one point does the extra cost only amount to extra kudos. Surely if you spend £4000 on a MTB you can expect XTR, DT swiss etc

Thoughts?

There's always gonna be Uber expensive Uber bikes.

Like you suggest, the performance stops at a certain point, the advantages are so marginal, you would have to be a pro-world cup / olympic level rider to feel the benefit.

    No point.

You could get SEVERAL ace bikes for 8 grand!!

Blimey, they've got a whole fleet of mingers:

Looks like they were designed by the same blind man who did the Cayenne.

What was the DH rig built by Honda a while back, the RN01. Almost every single bit was custom built by Honda, rumour has it that it cost something stupid like $70k.
The bike was never commercially available (not that anyone would ever have been able to afford one anyway) and the team does not exist anymore.
Hate to think how much it weighed, looks heavier than some of the motorbikes I have owned.

Greg Minnaar managed it alright. Did quite well on that bike by all accounts.

2 silvers and a bronze at the World Championships I believe (Elite DH).

I know what you mean though, bet that Gearbox adds some weight.

I dont know how the average Joe Bloggs or even decent British XC/Downhill racer can justify paying near enough £8000 for a bike, its mental.
  • the honda is one sexy beast, also the forks are made by showa who as far as i know dont make commercially available bicycle forks as they are a motorbike fork manufacturer. As for the porsche it is fugly and looks like one of them £70 'full suspension' 'lightweight aluminium' bikes you get from halfords

Not surprising coming from the same design studio that brought us the Porche Cockster.

Imagine how much mud that would collect on a typical UK trail in January!

Yeah that Isotruss bike is a really stupid design, they had it available as a frame or complete bike. Funniest thing was the complete was so stupidly priced that if you bought the frame & the exact same components off the shelf it worked out cheaper than the complete!
