Heya, im new to the forum and am looking for some advice.

I am looking at getting my first road bike using a bike2work scheme, and have narrowed it down to the Trek 1.7, or the Cannondale CAAD9 105. I know there just over a hundred pounds between the two but is te Cannondale worth the extra money, and wit me being a beginner, will i notcie the difference between the frames. I have heard that the Cannondale may be comfier on longer rides. I have had a short go on the trek and it did feel nice, but I have nothing to compare it to.

My thoughts are that if I ge tthe Trek, i have a little money left over to get a helmet and pedels, but if I get the Cannondale then thast is all my cycle2work scheme money gone and will have to pay using my own money for the helmet, pedels etc. I hope this makes sense.

Just hoping for your opinions on the two really. Thanks

CAAD9, a more skillfully sculpted frame.

    Thanks for the responses.

WIll i actually notice the difference between them? I am struggling to find a shop locally that stocks the both for me to try and without trying them one after another I am worried that I wont notice the difference with the extra cost of the CAAD9.

Has anyone else rode both and know the differences in the ride and how they feel. Sorry bout this but it is my 1st road bike so I just wana make sure I make the right decision. Thanks alot

    Hmmm,

Have you seen the rather overwhelming support for one in particular? ;)

Believe you me, you will notice it.

The Trek 1.7 uses a reasonable aluminium frame.

The CAAD9 is still used by professionals out of choice, not sponsorship, and has in fact been ridden to grand tour glory!

For me (and it would seem several others) it really is a no brainer.

To throw a spanner in the works here..... the Trek 1.7 uses the same frame as the 1.9 which got an excellent response in the recent C+ bike of the year test.

yeh I have thought bout the Trek 1.9, but then where do i stop really, and I want to keep as close to my budget as possible, plus copnsidering I am getting the bike using a bikescheme then the cost of the bike has to be £1000 or under.

Many thanks for the replies, I think it has helped me make my mind up. I will let you know how I get on with it
