Hey

I know merlin is cheap and all, but I paid 27.00 for a KMC chain and 26.00 for a front mech.

This stuff can be had on ebay on some other sites showing brand new.

But the chain or the mech are not brand new, they did not come in a box.

Is this right? as It does not state this on the website.

I have bought a cassette from them before and that came in a box.

Is this usual for merlin? Im not really mad, but they could put on web, not boxed OEM.

I think its OEM anyway, not sure the term.

Thanks guys

    OEM is brand new!
It just doesn't come in a box. As Spiderman says he got an XT cassette for £45.00. He could have bought it else where and in a box for £55.00 but why spend an extra £10.00 on a box your gonna throw away.

its because it 'Original Equipment' meaning its off a bike or bought in bulk to be put on a bike, therefore no box

One reason why it is cheaper too, none of the packaging - it is just sent in crates to the manufacturers.

Get someone to gift wrap them for you then you can have the pleasure of ripping them open.

Obviously it makes no actual difference, but still, they should say on the advert IMO.

i bought a handsome dog frame and forks the other day from all terrain, they came in a Giant box, and the forks had been wrapped up in two old printer cartridge boxs, which was odd. I'm not really fussed, as the products are excellent and super value.

I think my whole point is, they should say.

With companies like Merlin, they have a good rep. and it seems as though they are trying to deceive.

Might not be intentional, but they should say on they web, not boxed.

Its like going to the spar and asking for 10 fags and they go under the counter and hand you the fags, with no box.

Consumers should have the right to know what they are buying.

Me myself I don't really care, but it would have been nice to be informed.

They really should have said whether they were OEM or not. Some OEM stuff (not Shimano) is of a lesser spec, on forks for example the steerer might be steel rather than alloy on the OEM version.

Warranties can be different for OEM parts as well.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
