OK I need a new helmet in black and red ideally to match the kiron. Any suggestions around the £100 mark? Road biased of course.

Specialized Propero, about £70. I got one recently and quite like it. Think DDD and one or two others have it too.

Edit: Ah, just looked at the Scandium and it looks as though the it has a darker shade of red...

I don't have any specific suggestions, but Giro have a brilliant crash replacement scheme. I got my Animas MTB helmet replaced for bugger all + postage after I had my big off.
  • MET Stradivarius Ultimalite.

    More holes than helmet.

I used to get headaches wearing my old £45 Limar helmet.

The Propero is great because it has those 'forehead vents' great for getting wind to that part of the brain. Also I think the wind keeps the sweat from dripping down the forhead and into the eyes.

The S-works version (model up) is basically the same helmet with larger vents and carbonfibre.

When I buy another helmet probably I'll go for one the helmets listed below. The helmet would have to be wind tunnel designed to aid my need of cutting through air at very high speeds. Ultimately my decision based on which one most matches the colour scheme of my bike.

    Bell Volt or Sweep
    Giro Atmos or Ionus
MET Stradivarius - gets a plus +1 bonus because of the name.
    Food Chain number = 4

Another vote for the Bell Sweep R for me, or the Volt if you can find it within budget. Really depends on what fits best though. Most manufacturers have a slightly different fit. Bell works for me, with Met maybe second best. Giro and Specialized just don't fit right and the Limar I tried was appalling. Your head will be completely different and you might find things the other way round, so definitely a case of try before you buy.

For bling / vale factor, I reckon the Propero and the Sweep R are good bets though.

Aren't Bell and Giro owned by the same company now?

I use a Bell Sweep R for the commute and have an Ionos for events/trips/group riding where helmets are required. Both are pretty good in terms of fit comfort and air-cooling. Wore the Ionos in the alps last summer, didn't really notice I was wearing it most of the time

Absolutely try before you buy, everyone I see wearing a Propero seems to have it leaning to one side.

Last time I tried on helmets they all looked appalling and didn't fit properly. It was very discouraging! Especially as, notwithstanding the smell, my current Trek lid is getting a bit bruised and battered and it's only a matter of time before some key element of it gives way.

Hmmm, good choices. The spec will match my Kirons bottle cages, and carbon fibre version available eh?. The catlike has white on it, whilst not as much of a tart as some it will clash, may have to try it though. I like the look of the Atmos I must admit.

I've got the Giro Ionos which is very light and well ventilated. Most of the time you don't really know you've got it on and you can get it in red black and carbon

Whatever fits you best. I won't use anything other than Giros, because nothing else fits me as well.
