Seriouslt thinking of buying the Planet X SL Pro, but acording to their web site size reccomendations I'm between sizes. They reccomend a Medium for riders 5′8″ to 5′11″and a Large for riders 5′10″ to 6′2″. I'm just short of 5' 11 and have a 31 and half inch inside leg. They're too far away for me to get a fitting so any help would be appreciated from you guys.

    What's your flexibility like?

You seem to have pretty short legs for 5'11, so I'd go for the medium, you could always fit a longer stem onto the medium.

Any chance of getting a test ride first.

If in doubt go small - you can make a small bike bigger , as has been suggested by a longer stem - but if the bike is to big ....there isn't a lot that can be done !

My flexibility is poor, tight hamstring and lower back. As mentioned in my first message a test ride or fitting is not an option.

You might be better served with the larger frame size and shorter stem then.

Interseted to know what the logic is for that. I'd have though the smaller frame would mean I was less streched out and more upright etc?

The front end is higher up on a larger frame. If your flexibility is poor you'll probably want your bars higher rather than lower.

TBH it's hard to know definitely what to recommend with seeing you on either bike. You have short legs for your height which would point towards getting the smaller frame with a longer stem. But your flexibility suggests you'll want higher bars.

A "forum fit" will always be a guess I'm afraid. You say a fitting is not possible, but when you are spending in the region of £1000, it'd probably worth making the journey if you don't know what size you need.

Just let the guys at PX know. As an internet sale you can return the bike if you order the wrong size.

I've got a Planet X. I'm 5' 9" and have an inside leg of 31" and the medium fits me fine. It is so comfortable to ride; I think it's great value.
  • It's not easy to size a frame from an insde leg measurement. I am just over 5' 11" with an inside leg of 34", I have a Planet X large, the decision was based on measuring my old bike and talking to Planet X. If you haven't a road bike then at least measure yourself on something like: http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CC ... ATOR_INTRO
or try out some bikes with equivalent sizes. Get it wrong and it's a painful lesson, get it right and I'm sure the Planet X will be a joy. By the way, I really couldn't get on with the PX saddle, I thought I'd have to walk home on one ride, swapped with my 10 year old selle itallia and found the PX excellent.

I'm similar dimensions to you Wyattlad and I ride a Medium PX and the fit is absolutely fine.On a standard geometry I ride a 56cm.
The px is a great bike.

Have you not thought of an alternative that you can go and size in your LBS rather than a guestimation?
