Hi guys, before you ask i have searched but cant really find anything for my dilemma!
I currently have a saris bones 3 which i bought brand new for £30! (staff discount!) its very stable on the car and holds my bike securely and i'm happy to drive at 70mph on the mway with it on the back, however...

I moved to South wales a while ago and Afan/Gylncorrwyg are only 15mins away therefore the rack has been used quite a bit latelythe problem i'm having is that i have 2 bikes, one of which (gt xcr full sus) wont fit the rack at all due to the frame design and my other bike a spec. P3 w/ big top tube is getting scratched to hih heavens when i take the bike on/off the rack and its a very tight fit - is there anything i can do?

Or is a new rack the best option? If so which??? I was looking at the Pendle strap on rack which looks good however dont like the idea of my bikes rubbing against one another on the rack...

thanks in advance!!

Paul

I've got an Avenir Vermont. I have a saloon and it works great for me strapped to the boot of my 406. It carries 3 bikes and has arms that clamp them in place as well as straps - just in case I guess!
Steady as a rock it is but - about a hundred quid. Saying that, I haven't put a single scratch on either my car or the bikes.

that does look a good one, since posting the topic i've been looking at more bike racks which hold the wheels in a 'trough' as these will be easy for all styles of bike :)
Not bothered too much about price as its be more expensive to get a cheap rack and have the bikes fall off at high speed! want something that will last and be sturdy

Do mtb tyres fit ok? (2.1 and bigger?)

Yeah, all the bikes sit in a trough easily. Straps hold the wheels to the troughs and I always put a tie wrap round each one just in case.
The arms hold my trek ex8 and the gf's ex5.5 no problem. There's even 2 straps attached to the frame so you can strap the bikes on incase the worst ever were to happen.

I've had my rack about a year now and the bikes are rock solid after any distance I've travelled. I really can't recommend it highly enough. :D
