I have recently bought a Garmin Edge 705 specifically for downloading .GPX files from the sportive sites that I intend doing.
For example the next being The Forest Of Dean Spring Classic.

Downloaded the .GPX file just fine, however when I come to open it I get some message about only 100 points can be used??

I see that this site uses Memory Map, is there any way of dowloading a file that will work??

The 100 point limit is on the Garmin 705. It only allows 100 waypoints.

The best site I have come across for the Garmin is http://frank.kinlan.co.uk/ which may help you overcome this. There is a lot of info on there which takes a bit of time to go through, but it is a good source for any technical problems.

    Convert gpx to tcx here
Or draw the route yourself on Bike Route Toaster and download direct to the 705 via 'To Garmin GPS' (tcx).
    Powered by Haribo.

+1 for converting to TCX and BikeRouteToaster. The TCX file will then go into the Courses folder.
  • GPSies will also let you reduce the number of waypoints - I have to do that a lot for the gf when she gets .gpx routes for her trail running marathons. 30 or 50 max seems to work well.

If you are using BikeRouteToaster you can set these up.

When planning the course make sure on the options under Auto route that the box for "add course point at junction" is ticked.

Then once the route is planned, go to the summary page and make sure the "add course point warning" is ticked. You then have an option of how far away from the junction you want the warning.

Should also bleep at you if you go off course.

One of the best sites for the Garmin Edge 705 is www.bikehike.co.uk as you can export files as GPXX files, which upload straight to an Edge 705 with no messing around.
