Frame woes: Giant TCR Alliance 2007 vs SCR 2008

Hey there,

So I am facing a tough decision here. My 08 SCR frame is too big and is causing me some discomfort. I know I can dial in a decent position with a shorter stem and a lot of time trying to set it up. It will be bearable, but never perfect.

I have seen a 2007 TCR Alliance1 complete bike for a good price, and in a size which suits me better. But I have modified the hell out of my SCR, putting it almost equal with the Alliance. I have 105 derailleurs, HTII chainset and some other stuff. So the only thing better about the Alliance is the 105 shifters and Semi-Composite frame.

What do you think? Is it worth it?

The alternative is to buy a Defy4 (same frame throughout Defy range), strip it down to the frame and swap the components over from my SCR and keep the SCR for winter with its original Tiagra parts.

Cheers
Pedro

I'd go for the second option...... it's a good alloy frame. Or see if you can pick up a frame only on ebay

I think you could be right. The cost of the bike plus a set of new 105 shifters would still be less than the TCR, and wouldn't leave me with 2 almost identical bikes.

If I hadn't modified the SCR, I would have gone for the Alliance, but as you said, the Defy frame is solid.

    Cheers
