Boardman Team MTB replacement?

I spent months researching what bike to get and in October I bought a Boardman Team MTB.
January it was stolen and my insurance company are processing the claim. Unfortunately they've passed it to wiggle to provide the replacement so I won't be able to replace with the same as before.

To be honest I'd prefer to just buy the same bike I had second hand cos I loved it.

So now wiggle are going to try and provide me with a similar spec. Any ideas what I could go for? Had a look on they're website and none od them seem to come close for the price!

Thanks.

I could be wrong, but you maybe able to reject the insurance companies offer (though would have to check your policy)

Problem is all the prices have gone up since October.

Your probably not gonna get the same value for money as you did back then.

I'm just wondering whether the insurance company would have took into account recent price hikes when offering the settlement fee.
  • Could look at it 2 ways though... add a few more quit to what I assume is around £850, and you could get a very very nice HT.
  • I may be wrong but I wouldn't have thought insurance companies could insist on you using a certain shop for replacement.

    Cheers folks.
I was wrong about wiggle earlier, it's wheelies I have to go through, I miss heard.

However they've offered £500 cash or £700 to spend at wheelies and I can contribute towards it, don't really want to but the options there.

The closest spec they have to the Boardman Team I had is the Specialized Rockhopper Pro Disc which is £977 so I'd have to contribute £200.

Started looking at stuff around the £500 mark but after riding the Boardman I think I might feel disappointed.

    Any input appreciated.

Get back onto your insurance company and refuse their 'kind' offer of £500 to spend elsewhere. If you are pushy enough you'll probably get what you want - ie a Boardman from Halfords.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

i dont know my insurance stuff but even 700 seems underpriced!

Well, turns out I'm only covered up to £500 for the bike and accessories on my house insurance.

I'm going to call them today anyway, but been looking around in the meantime.

Looking at the Specialized Rockhopper Rockhopper Comp Disc. It doesn't seem a million miles away from my previous and I can't justify the extra £200 for the Expert Disc for marginally better brakes and forks.

Although with the Comp Disc running Tora coils I can't imagine how this will compare to the Reba Air shocks I had :o(

Ideally it be great if I could buy something and swap it for a Boardman... nevermind.

does it surprise you that a bike from halfords can be good? its only the brand snobs that lose out in the end as both the mtb and roadbike range from boardman are top bikes and are well worth buying.
    who cares?
  • ... the Boardmans are top notch for the price. Massive discounts through work and a deal with Halfords made it impossible to ignore the road range this year. I wasn't disappointed with the bike. Halfords were as crap as crap would ever be, but the bike was, and is a great piece of kit. If you can just keep the bile and vomiting under control and actually GO into a Halfords, you'll find the Boardmans are jaw droppingly spec'ed for the prices.

just make sure you have a local bike shop who you can rely on to set it up and RE-assemble it to correct all the mistakes Halfords made (sorry guys, two years and two bikes running you wrecked my riding for three weeks and actually damaged components getting my bike 'ready' for delivery!!).
  • amm i not right in saying that insurance companys have to provide a bike that is simular spec or equal spec of the bike/product that was stolen?

ie if the bike if equal spec is more than the 500 pound limit then they must provide the extra costs to provide a equally specced bike

    for example:

my rockhopper 08 cost 390 but to get a spec equal of that id easly have to spend upto 580+pounds to get a simular spec . even though my insurance too is limited to 500 pound per bike atm.

like a car you cannot buy a lambo then insurance companys gives you a fait and says there you go theres your replacement...

I'm just in denial that i am going to set foot in Halfords with the intention of actually purchasing something.

Cheers folks. I ended up going for the Rockhopper Comp. Been out on it this afternoon and it was great. Yeah sure not as good as previous but I still enjoyed it.
See how I go on it and if I get into it seriously I can consider upgrading the bike or parts later.
The Rockhopper is pretty good but if I was going to change anything first, it would be the Tora's for something else.
