Hi,
I have a trek 6000 which I have had for about a year and a half.
Hardly ridden. I am in the process of changing the tyres (to slicks) and I have taken the wheel out and I now cant get it back in. I cant fit the brake disc in between the pads, it just seems the gap isnt big enough.
It doesnt seem these brakes are that good as if even I am able to force the wheel in, the brakes are going to be grinding/rubbing the whole time.
Can anyone please help me?

so the lever was pulled while the wheel was out.
put something clean between the pads and separate them ."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

the lever was not pulled when the wheel was out.
well i have tried a flat head screw driver and the gap wont increase. is there no way in adjusting the gap between the 2 pads?0 -
That is the only way to do it - to lever them apart. They can take a lot of force.0

so just literally put flat head screw driver in the gap and force them apart?0

Or a sturdy tyre lever. Once they have been prised apart, refit wheel, pump lever a few times to reset the pads.
The system auto adjusts to pad wear, seems like the lever was knocked with the wheel out.0 -
ok sure, thanks.
and final question - is it normal for the pads to rub against the disc?
the disc is not bent.0 -
A little bit of rub is acceptable. Make sure the rotor is centred on the caliper. And can take a while for the system to bed in once things hav been changed.0
