I'm looking at getting a road or cross bike to use for my commute / fitness, I've been riding XC MTB for a few years and will admit to knowing knowing about road bikes.
I'll be getting the bike on one of the cycle to work schemes, we haven't subscribed to one yet, so currently aren't tied down.
I'd be looking to spend £700-£1000
the reason i've said road / cross bike is that i've got no idea how robust a road bike is, i'm used to jumping on / off curbs and letting the suspension soak up pot holes etc. so i'm thinking that a cross would stand upto more punishment and be able to take on tow paths / the off road cycle paths (as in poorly paved or unsurfaced track (i don't know if you could do that on a road bike))
I weigh around 80Kg if that makes any odds either.
oh my journey will consist of 10 miles from the station to work and then 10 miles back in the evening.
In an ideal world i'd like to buy British, but will ultimately buy what's best for me, so far the spesh allez and tricross have caught my eye, along with the Boardman Road Team although i'd rather not buy from halfords as their accessory selection isn't exactly that great and whilst i already own a helmet, camelbak, lock etc for my MTB i'd probably throw in a new set of shoes, track pump on the CTW voucher.
thanks in advance.

Check this link out for some initial ideas and info:

Then try asking a more specific question as i think quite a lot of people get annoyed answering this all the time :roll:winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg
