Ours does too, but it's about 50 yards from the bike racks!0 -
There's a huge problem of abandoned bikes outside the train station in Cambridge. I know that they regularly do a bike cull to free up space. They give you plenty of notice and then any bikes that haven't had a ribbon tied to them or some other obvious sign they are still in use are removed.
If it can happen on this kind of scale regularly, I'm sure it would be fine to clear a few bikes outside an office0 -

when i visit cambridge i always avoid parking the bike at the rail station like the plague. It is to the point where availability is almost none.Giant TCR advanced 2 (Summer/race)

It was admitted that chances of the police investigating either offence was about as close to zero as you can get and even if they did the CPS wouldn't support a charge because there isn't a court in the land that would return a guilty verdict.

Or to put it in another way- the CPS wouldn't support a charge as there is no offence made outWant to know the Spen666 behind the posts?

Can I have first dibs on anything decent that gets 'cut-away'?0

The issue at my workplace is no so much bikes that have been 'abandoned', it's more that people seem to use the bike racks as a 'home away from home' bike storage facility (given the size of most Flats here in London I can see the incentive) - the little treasures sitting there trussed up in their D-locks just waiting for their annual 'twice a summer' outing.
The result being that, whilst I agree that the tagging idea is great for bikes that have truly been abandoned, all that will happen in the case at hand is that the offenders will simply get the e-mail from building security about the tags and then promptly head down to the car park and rip them off - the result, one bike now safe in undercover storage for another year.
What to do? - Brick Lane's just around the corner, perhaps the building owner could get some of the locals to come 'round for a bike security test practical masterclass. Hmmm..The Greg
"No, no, he didn't slam you, he didn't bump you, he didn't nudge you... he 'rubbed' you. And rubbin', son, is racin'!"

How very odd. A couple of weeks ago I was going to complain to my employer about all the dead and dying bikes in the various storage sites and low and behold not only does an article appears on here but all the old bikes have got wee little tags on as well (I think they got a batch from the local morgue becuase they look like body tags). All the bike corpses have labels on to say that they are suspected to be abandoned and unless removed by a certain date they will be removed for disposal. Obviously is not that hard to make the decision to have a clear out.0
