Bike Bag soft with frame or normal soft bag

Sorry but I see there are a few threads about this subject but this is bugging me. I decided to go with a soft case for my bike and I will pad the sides with thin hardboard or ply wood. I will use it approx once maybe twice a year to go to France etc on a cycle sportive ride.

I am however undecided to get the Ultra Bike bag or a bike bag that has a frame where you can connect the bike to inside the bag. My worry is that the front chain ring could potentially get damaged as it will be resting on the bottom of the bag if the wheels are off. I know I can put bubble wrap and foam around this but think if the bag was dropped or chucked out of the plane hold it could damage. Any suggestion advice or recommendation would be great about bike bags or the chain ring issue, packaging etc. I would hate to think my beloved bike getting damaged.

P.S. I really cannot afforded a really good hard case and have storage issues.

The frame is good but increase weight. get some polystyrene foam ie that hard white stuff that is used for packing TVs etc and cut a slot for your chinring or a pice of foam on the bottom of the case and a sponge with a slot cut in or some pipe lag on the chain ring

I use a soft bag but my bike goes in upside down so it doesn't rest on the chainring.

Put spacers in your forks to stop them getting squashed. Unbolt the rear mech and cable tie to the chainstay. Loosen the bars and turn them through 90 degrees and twist them so the shifters are down. Protect the chainring as above then put pipe lagging round the tubes and bubble wrap anything you can't fit pipe lagging round.
