Which sun block?

I very rarely use the stuff, but I tend to burn easily if I don't build up a tan slowly. Out in the good weather at the weekend I became a bit lobsterish so I've not been out since, but need to go out for a longish run today even though my skin still tingles. Was going to google, but I'm not sure what keywords to use, except 'suntan lotion'.

I found a bottle of Ambre Solaire Men (SPF 12), non-greasy, sport, that I bought in 2004. It doesn't have a use by date so presumably it's OK to use. Would that be right?

Anyhoo, what's the best stuff to use out on the bike for for a day's ride?

You live in Scotland so don't worry about it - that was your Summer!

I get really sweaty when I ride, so teh suncreams I have tried tend to drip off, or get wiped off as I ride, even the so-called sport specific ones.

Anyone know a good sun cream that will actually stay on once I'm sweating buckets?

I used Reimann P20 last year in the Pyrenees.
You only need to apply once per day apparently.

I don't think any sunscreen stays on well if you are sweating a lot, to be honest. I tend to use a block with a high SPF (40 or more) and apply liberally about 1/2hr before riding in sunny conditions. You still tan quickly with a high SPF. I've also found that the higher SPF screens don't seem to run quite so much. On a really long run (+5hrs) I'll take a small squeezy pouch of sunscreen to reapply if the forecast is strong sun, and a very small packet of wetwipes to clean my hands after applying.

Sure, having a deep tan is nice, but the leathery skin in later life and associated cancer risks are not worth it.

I've used sunscreen by Aloe Up that seems pretty resistant to sweating...

Is that not the point of suntan lotion? To block or reduce the effects of the sun so that you'll tan slowly?

P20 is excellent. It's like a light gel as opposed to cream. Apply about 20 mins before going in the sun and as prev said you only need to apply once. I use it every year now.

Lasts a long time as I too live in Scotland.....

I use either the Banana Boat stuff or the Ambre Solaire 'Clear Protect' spray - both of which do a great job and don't get washed away with the sweat. The spray-on one doesn't stink too much, and application is a doddle. The Banana Boat one smells of, well, bananas really - perhaps more akin to a McDonalds banana shake actually!

It stinks! I'm sure once it's on it's fine but I just couldn't even get that far - smells so chemical when you open it up. IIRC it has a high alcohol content. Did I get a bad one?

You need to shake the bottle.

Once it's on and dried it's one of the few products that doesn't actually smell of anything.

I like it, but I tend to sweat it off my forehead and have to reapply when out riding for the full day.

Nope. That's it. Just once. One time in your life. Sorted.

I don't tan either, but I rarely bother with sun cream - only when I'm on holiday, but even then it's not a regular occurrence. I just use my super pale skin to reflect all of the sun's harmful rays.
