Will an Ultegra 10 Speed BB work ok with a Shimano 105 9 speed crankset? Not an expert on BBs so not sure if certain speeds are a factor or not.

They'll work fine together, it's a standard HTII BB. You could also use one of the many other after market options, such as Hope, Chris King or Acros

If I want to fit a Shimano 105 Crankset will the size of the BB be an issue? I intend to go 9 speed on a double chain ring will I need the right size BB? Just to complicat things I need an Italian thread apparently as that is what is installed at the moment. Cheers.

If you are buying this new then just get any Shimano double chainset (HT2) and any Shimano HT2 BB (with Italian threads)

don't worry about 9 or 10 spd for the chainset, either will be fine.

If you aren't buying new then just tell us what you have and we'll tell you what BB to get.

Good point.... there's me making the assumption that it was HT2. I should learn to read fully before jumping in

I've got an Ultegra 6500 BB spinning my Specialised Strong Arm cranks. Had to make sure it was the right HT though and the seller on Ebay didn't include the bolts which cost nearly as much as the BB :(
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

So what's the difference between all the Shimano BB's then ? They seem to be interchangeable but with only a few quid difference between low end and top end there can't be that much of a difference. I can understand better materials etc but surely this would make for a bigger price difference ?
