after buying my Focus Black Hills in November i have been perfectly happy withit (apart from forks) up until about 2 months ago when i heard a slight buzzing sound from back wheel, i realised the wheel was slightly buckled and was rubbing on frame, i carried on as normal as didnt bother me and i thought i had buckled the wheel, about 1 month ago i was on a ride and it got unbearably loud so i stopped and checked the spokes and they were all loose!, i have had the wheel rebuilt (wiggle payed for charges) and now the wheel wont centralise on the frame so it just stays to one side and rubs on the frame very badly anybody know what to do about this?
cheers Jamie

get the wheel sorted. Wiggle have not fixed it.

  • wiggle did not repair it though a local bike shop did, wiggle just covered the charges. If the wheel has not been rebuilt properly it is probably because the bike shop is run by a bloke who is at least 70 so i dont blame him really, but obviously if he has built wheel wrong then he will have to sort problem. I also have checked the wheel and it is true.

Don't mean to be patronising but are you sure the wheel is sat in the dropouts correctly? Cos otherwise if the wheel is true then your frame might be bent or something. :?
  • You need to have this looked at sooner rather than later. Take it to a different bike shop and make sure they have a proper look at it. My local bike shop would have a look for free and then charge if they actually needed to do anything, think most others would be pretty much the same.
It's probably something dead simple and they will do it on the spot. If it's something complicated, get them to tell you *exactly* what it is and give a quote to get it fixed, then get on to Wiggle and let them know. I personally have never bought a bike from them, but I have only heard good things re, customer support, returns etc.

Trust me, if it's a duff wheel, or worse a duff frame, you don't want to be riding it when it gives up.

Not trying to scare you, and as I say, it's most likely going to be something dead simple. better safe than sorry though.
  • cheers cat with no tail, i will get LBS to take a look.

Not having seen the wheel it is difficult to comment on a forum. However I am pretty sure the wheel has not been dished properly, meaning the rim will sit too far over one side of the hub. The wheel can be perfectly true but if it has not been properly dished it will rub the frame and anything else in the way. Believe it or not I have had wheels built badly like this in the past by various bike shops. I actually find older, established wheel builders to be far better than young kids who have been on a three day training course in bicycle maintenance. There is a lot to be said for experience, however there seem to be fewer and fewer of them around these days.

Also stop riding it. If you know there is a problem, and carry on riding and for instance it wears through the frame it will be your fault.

But does sound like a dishing error.
  • dw supersonic no chance of riding it it drags loads, also the noise is unbearable. Took it to halfords today just to diagnose problem and the bloke who works there used to work in the really good LBS about 5miles away repaired it for free, and works perfectly now he said the person who rebuilt the wheel did a rubish job, i dropped him a four pack of carling later because he did it for free.
